Vertical Milling Machine

Classic Vertical Milling Machine

Vertical milling machine is a main equipment in the field of mechanical processing and metalworking, named for its characteristic of having the spindle perpendicular to the worktable. This structural design makes vertical milling machines particularly suitable for machining end faces, grooves, complex contours, and other parts that require precision machining. Vertical milling machines are widely used in mold manufacturing, mechanical processing, small-batch production, maintenance work, and various other occasions due to their simple operation, wide processing range, and strong adaptability.

Main components:

  • Spindle: The spindle of a vertical milling machine is arranged vertically with the cutter mounted at the end of the spindle. It rotates driven by an electric motor to perform cutting operations.
  • Worktable: Workpieces are mounted on the worktable. Most vertical milling machines’ worktables can move along the X-axis (left-right) and Y-axis (front-back), while some advanced models also have a Z-axis movement capability to accommodate different height processing needs.
  • Feed system: Controls the speed and direction of movement for both the worktable and tool. There are manual and automatic feed modes to achieve precise machining.
  • Lift table: Used to adjust the distance between the worktable and spindle to meet different size workpiece processing requirements.

Features and advantages:

  • Wide operating visibility: Due to its vertical arrangement of spindles, operators can visually observe machining conditions easily for better control over machining quality.
  • Suitable for complex part machining: Vertical milling machines are especially suitable for processing parts with complex shapes such as molds and sculptures.
  • Flexibility and adaptability: By changing different cutters or adjusting positions of the worktable, vertical milling machines can perform various types of milling operations.
  • High-precision machining: With good structural stability combined with high-precision feed systems and lifting mechanisms enable achieving high-precision machining requirements.

Applications:

Vertical milling machines are widely used in various fields including but not limited to:
  • Mold manufacturing: Processing plastic molds, stamping dies, casting molds etc.
  • Parts manufacturing: Producing various mechanical parts like gears bearings seats connectors etc.
  • Education & research development: Used in educational institutions & research facilities for teaching demonstrations & prototyping new products.
